2011 May it be a Happy and Healthy New Year!

We are soon to welcome in a new year and some do resolutions.  I believe rug hookers have rugs dancing in their minds!  I keep a file and in that file you will find all kinds of scraps of paper with sketches of ideas on them! A bit more organized and I'd have a sketch pad near, so that may be one of my New Year's resolutions!


And dreams!  Oh the rugs I have in my head.  Some will be done, some may not...but the pleasure is in the thought.  Over the Christmas season I managed to do one Christmas coat pin, and a couple of mug rugs...in between a stomach virus and Christmas gatherings!  I found a wonderful hand made wooden Noah's Ark in the Artisan's Store in Sistersville WV.  I'm sanding it more, because that's what I do....and it will be gifted to my great granddaughter Kate!  May it last for her lifetime and on to others!


The future for me holds:  proddy mats and chair pads; proddy rug; a rug hooked for a son of mine from a photo.  "Shirley", a large walk on rug started at Cedar Lakes with Beverly Conway last year needs completed as does another rug begun in Nova Scotia.

Story Rugs

Reg's Truck

Rug hooking has a beginning; in necessity, in usefulness, in creativity.  All of that...but each rug has a story to tell, about the man or woman who designed the rug, who hooked the rug.  Even when you hook another's design, you choose it for a reason, for a person, or simply because you love the feeling that the design brings to you.  

     My brother's version of art is his modified Ford truck.  This rug was begun in Carol Kassera's class in 2008.  Her wool was utilized and the design was the photograph that you see to the left.  Only minor changes were made. For instance, the tree on the right was there but moved closer to the truck.

     The river in the photo is the Ohio.  Her color changes as the weather does!

Meet the Pip

Pip is a pretty neat 4 month old kitten.   He had company in his home over Thanksgiving.....well the one guest that held his attention the most was Lucy, the lovely white German Shepherd. By the end of the 8 days ....well friends at rest!

Flannel and wool week!

Brrrrrr...snow is heading our way today.  It looks to be a flannel and wool week on this WV ridge.  We had a wonderful week long family gathering over Thanksgiving.  We had some techies gathering with their phones and gagets as you can see in the photo.
It's a homemade potato soup kind of day, and the rug hooking will be Christmas theme of some kind!

The First!

Good Morning World!  I'm just learning my way around here and finding it interesting indeed!  I'm writing from my home, a 100 year old + two story house, on a ridge in West Virginia.  I love making rugs...a traditional and not so traditional rug hooker!  I've worked all this past summer moving all my wool and "stuff" in to our remodeled cellar house and I'm ready to start rug hooking again.  I restored a prim corner cupboard with punched tin doors just for the cellar house.  May you have a happy rug making day!
